Likewise, the saying that has become widespread among the people—“Were it not for you, were it not for you, I would not have created the heavens and the spheres”—is fabricated. Al-Ṣanʿānī declared it so, and al-Shawkānī concurred in his al-Fawāʾid al-Majmūʿa fī al-Aḥādīth al-Mawḍūʿa, p. 116.
An interesting side note is that the impostor-prophet Mirza Ghulam Ahmad al-Qādyānī plagiarized this spurious report, claiming that Allah addressed him with the words, “Were it not for you I would not have created the celestial spheres.” His Qādyānī followers in Damascus and elsewhere openly acknowledge this, for it is recorded in their leader’s book Ḥaqīqat al-Waḥy, p. 99.
Even if, for the sake of argument, one were to concede that the narration is merely weak—as some dissenters allege, contrary to the judgment of the scholars and ḥadith masters already cited—it still cannot be used to establish the legitimacy of the disputed form of tawassul (seeking mediation). They themselves claim that such tawassul is an act of worship; and the least degree of any act of worship is that it be recommended. Recommendation, however, is a legal ruling—one of the five rulings—that can only be proven by a sound text which serves as binding evidence. If the report is weak, it provides no proof whatsoever. This is self-evident, God willing.
Hadith Seven: “Seek intercession by means of my status, for my status with Allah is immense.”
Some relate it with the wording: “When you ask Allah, ask Him by my status, for my status with Allah is immense.”
This report is baseless; it has absolutely no foundation in any hadith collection. It is circulated only by people ignorant of the Sunnah, as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) pointed out.
