said, concerning the verse, “And indeed he saw him on another descent” (al-Najm 53:13):
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘I saw Gabriel at the Sidrat al-Muntahā (the Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary); he had six hundred wings, and from the feathers there fell astonishing marvels—pearls and rubies.’”
I remark: its chain is ḥasan. Yet al-Suyūṭī, in al-Khaṣāʾiṣ 1/408, attributes it only to al-Bayhaqī and Abū Nuʿaym.
Seventh report: Abū Wāʾil narrated from ʿAbd Allāh that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I saw Gabriel—peace be upon him—with six hundred wings.” Al-Ṭabarānī transmits it under 10422 with a good isnād.
Eighth report: Al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid related: ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah told me, “I heard Shaqīq ibn Salamah say: I heard Ibn Masʿūd recount that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘I saw Gabriel at the Sidrat al-Muntahā; he had six hundred wings.’ I asked ʿĀṣim about the wings, but he refused to elaborate. Later one of his companions informed me that a single wing stretches from the east to the west.” Reported by Aḥmad 1/407.
