He said, “Then we set off again and saw glimmering lamps and a radiant light. I asked, ‘What is this, Gabriel?’ He replied, ‘It is the tree of your forefather Abraham—peace be upon him. Would you like to draw near to it?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ We approached, whereupon he welcomed me and prayed that I be blessed.
We continued on until we reached Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). I tethered the mount to the ring by which the prophets tie their beasts, then I entered the mosque. All the prophets were gathered for me—those whom Allah named to me and those whom He did not—and I led them in prayer, all except these three: Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, peace be upon them.”
Al-Hākim recorded the tradition (4/606) and said, “This hadith is transmitted only through Abū Ḥamzah Maymūn al-Aʿwar. Our leading scholars have differed concerning him, and he has introduced additions that the two Shaykhs did not relate.” Al-Dhahabī commented, “I say: Aḥmad and others declared him weak.” I say: Yet al-Haythamī (1/74) stated, “It was narrated by al-Bazzār, Abū Yaʿlā, and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr, and its transmitters are those of the Ṣaḥīḥ.”
