ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“I was brought the Buraq and mounted behind Gabriel. It carried us on: whenever it rose, its hind legs lifted, and whenever it descended, its forelegs lifted.
We traveled through a gloomy, foul-smelling land until we emerged into a wide, pleasant plain. I said, ‘O Gabriel, we were passing through a dark, fetid land and now we have come into an open, fragrant one?’ He replied, ‘That was the land of the Fire, and this is the land of Paradise.’
I passed by a man standing in prayer. He asked, ‘Who is with you, O Gabriel?’ He answered, ‘This is your brother Muhammad.’ The man welcomed me, prayed that I be blessed, and said, ‘Ask ease for your community.’ I asked, ‘Who is he, O Gabriel?’ He said, ‘This is your brother Jesus son of Mary.’
We went on until I heard a voice and a murmuring. We came upon another man who asked, ‘Who is with you, O Gabriel?’ He said, ‘This is your brother Muhammad.’ He welcomed me, invoked blessing for me, and said, ‘Ask ease for your community.’ I asked, ‘Who is he, O Gabriel?’ He replied, ‘This is your brother Moses.’ I said, ‘At whom was he murmuring and raising his voice?’ He said, ‘At his Lord.’ I exclaimed, ‘At his Lord?!’ He said, ‘Yes; that is well known from the sharpness of his temperament.’”
