He continued: “We pressed on until we came to a tree whose fruit looked like sarḥ-berries; beneath it sat an elderly man with his household.
Gabriel said to me, ‘Go up to your father Abraham.’ We approached him, offered the greeting of peace, and he returned it. Abraham then asked, ‘Who is with you, Gabriel?’
‘This is your son Aḥmad,’ Gabriel answered.
Abraham said, ‘Welcome to the unlettered Prophet who conveyed his Lord’s message and sincerely advised his community. My son, tonight you will meet your Lord. Your nation is the last and the weakest of all nations, so if you can make your request—or the greater part of it—on behalf of your community, then do so.’
We moved on until we reached the Aqṣā Mosque. I dismounted and tied the mount to the ring fixed at the gate of the mosque where the prophets used to tether their animals.
I entered the mosque and recognized the prophets—some standing, others bowing, still others prostrating.
Then two cups were brought to me, one filled with honey and the other with milk. I chose the milk and drank it. Gabriel tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘You have chosen the sound natural disposition—by the Lord of Muhammad!’
The prayer was then established, and I led them all in it.”
