I say: its chain of transmission is sound, and it clearly indicates that the presentation did not take place on the Night of the Ascension but rather during the pilgrimage season. The reconciliation proposed by al-Ḥāfiẓ would have been valid had that additional phrase been reliably preserved; since it is in fact anomalous, there is no need for reconciliation. Allah knows best.
Moreover, al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Suyūṭī strayed even farther, attributing the hadith of this chapter solely to Ibn Mardawayh; see al-Khaṣāʾiṣ 1/401.
Eighth narration: Sharik relates from Abū ʿAlwān ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAṣm, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said, “Allah obligated fifty prayers upon His Prophet ﷺ, so he petitioned Allah and He made them five prayers.”
Recorded by Aḥmad (1/315) and Ibn Mājah (1400); its isnād is sound when supported by corroborating reports.
Ninth narration: ʿAbbād b. Manṣūr reports from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet ﷺ: “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, I did not pass by any host of angels without their saying, ‘You should practice cupping, O Muhammad!’”
