do so, whereupon he said, “Mother, leap in, for the punishment of this world is lighter than the punishment of the Hereafter.” So she leapt.
Ibn ʿAbbās said: “Four infants spoke: Jesus son of Mary (peace be upon him), the boy in the story of Jurayj, the witness in Joseph’s case, and the son of Pharaoh’s hair-dresser.”
This report was transmitted by Aḥmad 1/310, Ibn Ḥibbān 36 and 37, al-Ṭabarānī 12279, and others. It is weak because ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib suffered confusion, and although some maintain that Ḥammād heard from him before that confusion, it is also said that he heard from him afterward, as explained in al-Tahdhīb and al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfa 880. Accordingly, al-Suyūṭī’s assertion in al-Khaṣāʾiṣ 1/399 that its chain is sound is to be rejected, as is Ibn Kathīr’s similar comment, “Its isnād is acceptable.”
Sixth: ʿAwf related from Zurārah ibn Abī Awfā, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remarked, “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey, and when morning came I was in Mecca, I was alarmed about my affair1, knowing that the people would belie me.”
