—lost a camel, which so-and-so had collected for them. I gave them greetings of peace, and some of them said, “That is Muhammad’s voice!”
I then reached my companions in Mecca before dawn. Abu Bakr came to me and said, “Messenger of Allah, where were you tonight? I searched for you in every place I thought you might be!” I replied, “Do you know that I went to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) last night?” He said, “Messenger of Allah, it is a month’s journey away. Describe it to me.”
A pathway was opened before my eyes as though I were looking directly at it; he did not ask me about anything without my informing him. Abu Bakr declared, “I bear witness that you are truly the Messenger of Allah.”
The idolaters scoffed, “Look at Ibn Abi Kabsha—he claims he went to Bayt al-Maqdis last night!”
I said to them, “As a sign of what I have told you: I passed your caravan at such-and-such a place. They had lost a camel, which so-and-so gathered for them. On their way they will camp here, then there, and they will arrive to you on such-and-such a day, led by a tawny camel with a black covering and two black saddle-bags.”
When that day came, the people climbed up to watch. Shortly before noon the caravan appeared, led by the very camel the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had described.
