6 – The Ḥadith of Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān
It is transmitted by ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah, from Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, from Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I was brought the Burāq; it is a white mount, tall—[its back was stretched out like this]—placing its hoof where the gaze reaches. Gabriel and I did not leave its back until I reached the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The gates of heaven were opened for us, and I beheld Paradise and Hell [and every promise of the Hereafter].” [Then the two of them retraced their way back to where they had begun.]
Ḥudhayfah added, “He did not pray in Jerusalem.”
Zirr said, “I replied to him, ‘Yes, he did pray!’”
Ḥudhayfah asked, “What is your name, O bald-headed one? I recognize your face but do not know your name.”
I said, “I am Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh.”
He retorted, “And how do you know that he prayed?!”
