He answered, “Muhammad.” They asked, “Has he been summoned?” He said, “Yes.” They replied, “Welcome and greetings to him!”
He was then carried up to the third heaven, and its angels said the same as those of the first and second. Next he rose to the fourth, and they repeated the same words; then to the fifth, and they did likewise; then to the sixth, and they did likewise.
He was finally taken to the seventh heaven, and they too greeted him in the same manner. In each heaven there were prophets—whose names he mentioned—but the ones I remember are Idris in the second, Aaron in the fourth, another in the fifth whose name I did not retain, Abraham in the sixth, and Moses in the seventh, honored with Allah’s direct speech. Moses said, “My Lord, I did not imagine anyone would be raised above me.”
He was then lifted beyond that to a realm known only to Allah until he reached the Lote-Tree of the Ultimate Boundary, where the Almighty, Possessor of Majesty, drew near and descended.
