It is most probable that this is Saʿīd’s version—meaning Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah—because it matches the wording attributed to Saʿīd in Aḥmad ⦗4/210⦘. The report in Muslim, however, follows al-Dastawāʾī’s sequence exactly, except that it omits the Lote Tree.
3 – As for the narration in which Anas relates directly from the Prophet ﷺ, it was transmitted from him by Thābit al-Bunānī and Shurayk ibn Abī Namr, as noted earlier:
A – Thābit’s version states that Anas ibn Mālik reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying:
“I was brought the Burāq—a white, long-bodied animal, larger than a donkey yet smaller than a mule; it places its hoof where its gaze ends. I mounted it until I reached Jerusalem, and there I tethered it to the ring by which the prophets tie their mounts.
I then entered the mosque, prayed two units of prayer, and came out.
Gabriel brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, whereupon Gabriel said, ‘You have chosen the fiṭrah1.’”
