and 3430 and 3887; Muslim 264 and 265; and Ibn Jarir 15/3.
Know that the transmitters who report from Qatādah disagreed over the order of the signs that appear after the seventh heaven. In the version narrated by al-Dastawāʾī—who is the most reliable of them—the sequence is as follows, as already noted:
- al-bayt al-maʿmūr (the Frequented House).
- al-awāni (the vessels).
- al-sidrah (the Lote Tree).
- al-anhār (the rivers).
Hammām’s version—he is trustworthy, though Ibn Hajar considered that he may have erred—arranges them in this order:
- al-sidrah (the Lote Tree).
- al-anhār (the rivers).
- al-bayt al-maʿmūr (the Frequented House).
- al-awāni (the vessels).
This is the report preserved by Bukhārī. He also records another report from him in which the sequence differs; in that one he pairs him with Saʿīd and Hishām, mentioning the Frequented House first and then the Lote Tree.
