17 – The ḥadith of Abū Dharr
(It was cited earlier in the narration of Anas.)
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq said: “I said to Abū Dharr, ‘If I had met the Messenger of Allah, I would have asked him!’ He asked, ‘What would you have asked him?’ I replied, ‘I would have asked him whether he saw his Lord—exalted is He.’ Abū Dharr said, ‘Indeed I did ask him, and he replied:
“I saw light; how could I see Him?!” ’ ”
Recorded by Aḥmad 5/147, 175 and Muslim 1/292.
(1) This is the last passage personally written by Shaykh Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani—may Allah have mercy on him. He passed away before completing, in this volume, the arrangement of all sound hadiths on the isra and mi'raj in a single continuous sequence. We pray that Allah enables us to fulfill this task, just as the Shaykh intended, in future editions. May Allah send His prayers, peace, and blessings upon Muhammad and his family, and all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds. —The Publisher.
