Ibn Ziyād, however, was prone to mistakes, as noted in al-Taqrīb. His teacher, this ʿAbd Allāh, is mentioned by Ibn Ḥajar in al-Taʿjīl—in the wording that appears in the Musnad—and he adds nothing more than, “Ibn Ḥibbān listed him among the reliable.” Ibn Abī Ḥātim also records him in al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl 5/98/454—following the version related by Ibn Jarīr—but he adds, “He narrated from Sālim and Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb,” and that is most likely correct. In any event, the man remains unknown and the chain is weak, although the text itself is supported by corroborating reports cited earlier.
