of Refuge—when the Lote-Tree was enshrouded by whatever enshrouded it; the eye did not swerve nor did it overstep; indeed, he saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord.” He said: “[That sign was] the created being Gabriel—peace be upon him.”
This narration is reported by Ahmad 1/407 and al-Tabarani 10547. Its chain is sound: all of its transmitters are trustworthy and well-known except for this Ishaq; nevertheless, two reliable narrators have transmitted from him and Ibn Hibban listed him among the reliable.
Tenth report: Israel related from Abu Ishaq, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, from ʿAbd Allah—concerning the verse, “The heart did not deny what it saw” (53:11)—that he said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw Gabriel clad in a robe of rafraf (green silk brocade) that filled the space between heaven and earth.”
It was recorded by Ahmad 1/394 and 418, and by al-Tirmidhi 3283, who said: “A hadith that is hasan sahih.” Al-Hakim 2/468–469 stated, “Sound according to the conditions of the Two Shaykhs,” and al-Dhahabi concurred. It was also transmitted by al-Tayalisi 323 through Qays and by Ibn Jarir 27/51 through Sufyan, both from Abu Ishaq.
