and falsehood—for what is there after the truth except misguidance?!
“ That is because Allah alone is the Truth, whereas whatever they call upon besides Him is mere falsehood.” 1 Consequently, such a person’s end will be the Fire—how wretched a destination.
The word “creed” means whatever a servant holds to be true and adopts as his religion. If that creed accords with what Allah sent His messengers with and revealed in His scriptures, it is sound and correct, securing salvation from Allah’s punishment and happiness in this world and the Hereafter. But if the creed contradicts what Allah sent His messengers with and revealed in His scriptures, it inevitably condemns its adherents to torment and misery in both realms.
A sound, correct creed also safeguards blood and property in this life and forbids any unlawful violation of either. The Prophet ﷺ said, “I have been commanded to fight people until they testify, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.’ When they do so, their blood and property are protected from me, except for a right due from them.” He also said, “Whoever proclaims, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah,’ and rejects whatever is worshipped besides Allah, his wealth and blood become inviolable, and his reckoning is with Allah.” Reported by Muslim.
It likewise delivers one from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection. Muslim narrated from Jābir that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him will enter Paradise, and whoever meets Him while associating anything with Him will enter the Fire.” And in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, from the ḥadīth of ʿItbān ibn Mālik: “Allah has forbidden the Fire for the one who says, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah,’ seeking thereby the Face of Allah.”
Furthermore, by means of a sound, correct creed Allah expiates sins. At-Tirmidhī—who graded the ḥadīth good—narrated from Anas that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Allah the Exalted said: ‘Son of Adam! Were you to come to Me with an earth-full of sins and then meet Me without associating anything with Me, I would come to you…’”
