yield no benefit whatsoever for those who worship them; and anything of that nature is unfit to be worshipped. As He, the Exalted, says: “Say: Call upon those whom you claim besides Allah. They do not own even the weight of a speck in the heavens or on earth. They have no share in either of them, nor does He receive any support from them.” 1
- Another method is that He—glorified be He—strikes numerous parables in the Quran through which the falsity of polytheism becomes crystal clear. Among them is His saying: “Whoever associates partners with Allah is like one who falls from the sky: the birds snatch him away, or the wind flings him into a far-distant place.” 2
He—exalted is He—compares the loftiness, breadth, and nobility of monotheism to the sky itself. The one who abandons monotheism is likened to a person plummeting from that sky to the lowest of the low, for he has tumbled from the pinnacle of faith to the pit of unbelief. The devils that torment him are compared to birds tearing him limb from limb, while the whims that drive him further from the truth are likened to a wind hurling him into a remote wasteland.
This is but one of many examples in the Quran that Allah—majestic is He—cites to expose the futility of polytheism and the ruin awaiting the polytheist in both this life and the Hereafter.
What we have presented in this study of the Quranic methods for calling to the worship of Allah alone and for demolishing polytheism is only a small portion of a vast treasury. A Muslim has only to read the Quran with contemplation to discover abundant good, compelling proofs, and radiant evidences that implant the creed of monotheism firmly in the believer’s heart and eradicate from it every doubt
