Manifestations of Allegiance to the Believers

The Qur’an and the Sunnah have clarified the ways in which a Muslim shows allegiance to fellow believers. Among them are the following:

1- Migration to the lands of the Muslims and abandoning the lands of the unbelievers. In this context, hijrah means relocating from non-Muslim territory to Muslim territory in order to safeguard one’s faith.

Hijrah, understood in this sense and for this purpose, is obligatory and will remain so until the sun rises from the west when the Hour is established.

The Prophet ﷺ disavowed every Muslim who resides among the polytheists; therefore it is unlawful for a Muslim to live in the lands of the unbelievers unless he is genuinely unable to leave, or his staying there serves a religious benefit—such as calling people to Allah and spreading Islam.

Allah the Exalted says: “Indeed, those whose souls the angels take while they were wronging themselves will be asked, ‘What condition were you in?’ They will reply, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ The angels will say, ‘Was not Allah’s earth spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?’ Such people will have Hell as their refuge—what an evil destination! Excepted are the truly oppressed—men, women, and children—who lack the means and cannot find a way out; for these it may be that Allah will pardon them. Allah is ever Pardoning, Forgiving.”⦗2⦘
