Paradise and Hellfire
On the Day of Resurrection there will stand two mighty abodes that never perish: Paradise and Hellfire. Paradise is the home of the God-fearing, while Hellfire is the home of the disbelievers. The Exalted has said, “Indeed, the righteous will be in bliss, and indeed, the wicked will be in a blazing Fire.” 2
Both abodes are already created and presently existent, for He, the Most High, said regarding Paradise, “prepared for the God-fearing,” 3 and concerning the Fire, “prepared for the disbelievers,” 4. Many other texts likewise prove that they exist even now and that they will abide forever without extinction—this being the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamāʿah.
The commentator on al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah said: “One must know that Allah, exalted be He, withholds reward only when He withholds its cause, namely righteous action, for He said, ‘Whoever does righteous deeds while being a believer shall have no fear of injustice or curtailment.’ 5 Likewise, He does not punish anyone until the cause of punishment has occurred, for Allah, the Exalted, says, ‘Whatever calamity befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned, and He pardons much.’ 6 He—glorified be He—is the Giver and the Withholder: none can withhold what He gives, and none can give what He withholds …” End quote.
