The Emergence of Gog and Magog
We shall discuss the emergence of Gog and Magog in the light of what the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger have related concerning this momentous event, for believing in it and affirming it is obligatory upon the Muslims.
The emergence of Gog and Magog is attested to by the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the ummah; this was stated by al-Saffarini, may Allah have mercy on him.
As for the Quranic proof, Allah the Exalted says:
“Until, when Gog and Magog are let loose and they surge forth from every elevation, and the true promise draws near, then behold—the eyes of the disbelievers will stare in horror: ‘Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this; rather, we were wrongdoers.’” 1
He, exalted be He, also said in the story of Dhu al-Qarnayn:
“Then he followed another way. When he reached the region between the two barriers, he found in front of them a people who could scarcely understand speech. They said, ‘O Dhu al-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are spreading corruption in the land. Shall we pay you a tribute so that you may erect a barrier between us and them?’ He replied, ‘That in which my Lord has empowered me is better; so help me with strength and I will set up a rampart between you and them. Bring me blocks of iron.’ When he had levelled the space between the two mountain sides, he said, ‘Blow!’ and when he had made it a fire he said, ‘Bring me molten copper that I may pour over it.’ Thus they were unable to scale it, nor could they pierce it. He said, ‘This is a mercy from my Lord; but when my Lord’s promise comes to pass, He will level it, and my Lord’s promise is ever true. And on that Day We shall leave them surging against one another, the trumpet will be blown, and We shall gather them all together, and on that Day We shall present Hell plainly before the disbelievers.’” 2
This is an iron barrier set between two mountains, built by Dhu al-Qarnayn so that it became a single rampart preventing those corrupt people from harming others and spreading mischief on earth; but when
