—to complete the religion.
4 A nation to which a prophet had already been sent, yet circumstances required that another prophet be commissioned alongside him to confirm and support him.
Each one of these four reasons lapsed after the coming of Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him; therefore neither the Muslim community nor any other people on earth has any need for a new prophet after Muhammad, peace be upon him.
The Quran itself makes plain that Muhammad’s mission is universal, intended for all humanity. The Almighty says, “Say: O mankind, I am the Messenger of Allah to you all” 1.
World history likewise shows that from the very start of his mission and up to the present day, global conditions have remained such that his call can reach every corner of the earth and every nation. Hence no nation or region now requires a new prophet; the first reason has thus disappeared.
The Quran, corroborated by the vast treasury of hadith and prophetic biography, also testifies that the teaching brought by the Prophet, peace be upon him, is still alive and preserved in its authentic form; the hand of forgetfulness, alteration, or distortion has never touched it. As for the Book he conveyed, not a single letter of it has been changed, omitted, or added, nor can such tampering ever occur until the Day of Resurrection. The guidance he imparted through his words and deeds likewise endures; its traces remain vivid today, as though we were standing before him in his own time. Thus the second reason has also vanished.
Moreover, the Quran explicitly declares that Allah, exalted is He, perfected His religion through Muhammad.
