To sum up, the religion of all the prophets—peace be upon them—is one and the same: to devote all worship to Allah alone and to forbid idolatry and corruption. Their individual laws varied according to circumstances and needs, until Allah sealed prophethood with Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. His message encompasses all creatures and will last until the end of the world; it will never be altered, changed, or abrogated. It is sound and beneficial for every time and place, and there will be no prophet after him until the Final Hour. He commands what the earlier messengers commanded: faith and sincere worship of Allah in accordance with the rulings he brought. He confirms the truth of his brother-messengers, and those messengers foretold his advent—above all the one closest to him in time, the Messiah Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, who said to his people, “O Children of Israel, I am indeed the Messenger of Allah to you, confirming what is before me of the Torah and bringing good news of a Messenger who will come after me whose name is Ahmad” 1.
In the previous Scriptures the traits and distinctive qualities of this Messenger are set out with the utmost clarity, though some Jews and Christians have rejected them out of envy and arrogance, as Allah says: “Those to whom We gave the Scripture recognize him as they recognize their own sons, yet a group of them deliberately conceals the truth even though they know it” 2.
O Allah, show us the truth as truth and grant us the grace to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the grace to shun it.
