Fourth Principle: Faith in the Messengers
Belief in the messengers is one of the fundamental articles of faith, for they are the intermediaries between Allah and His creation, charged with conveying His message and establishing His proof against humanity. To believe in them is to affirm their mission, acknowledge their prophethood, hold them truthful in all they report from Allah, and be certain that they delivered every revelation in full and clarified to people matters no one may lawfully remain ignorant of.
The evidences obligating belief in the messengers are many, including:
• Allah the Exalted says, “Rather, righteousness is [found in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets.” ⦗1⦘
• He also says, “The Messenger has believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and so have the believers; all of them believe in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers.” ⦗2⦘
• And He says, “Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and wish to make a distinction between Allah and His messengers, saying, ‘We believe in some but reject others,’ and wish to pursue a path between the two—those are the true disbelievers.” ⦗3⦘
In these verses, Allah couples faith in the messengers with faith in Himself, His angels, and His scriptures, and He pronounces disbelief upon anyone who seeks to separate Allah from His messengers—believing in some while rejecting others.
