anthropomorphism, they conclude that, when faced with scriptural texts that affirm the attributes, only two options remain: either to allegorically reinterpret the passages so that they no longer carry their plain sense, or to consign the meaning to Allah while holding that the apparent sense is not intended. Hence the versifier of their creed declares:
“Whenever a text suggests resemblance in the least,
Interpret it—or consign it—and thus declare Him transcendent.”
Glory be to You, my Lord, far above what the wrong-doers and deniers allege—exalted far beyond their claims.
Allah caused the truth to flow from that versifier’s tongue, for by saying, “Whenever a text suggests resemblance,” he admitted that their entire methodology rests on mere illusion, not on fact. They imagined that these passages necessitate likeness, so they rushed to reinterpret them.
Servants of Allah! Can illusory notions be set up in opposition to revealed texts, and can a creed be built upon them? Illusion is even weaker than conjecture, yet Allah Most High says about conjecture: “Indeed, conjecture is of no avail whatsoever against the truth” ⦗1⦘.
