from their true meanings, and He has promised to repay them for their deeds with punishment and torment; He has likewise branded them with disbelief in His words: “and they disbelieve in the Most Merciful.” 1 For this reason many scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah declared the Jahmiyyah to be unbelievers.

The eminent Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Indeed, some sixty scholars throughout the lands
Have borne the verdict that they are unbelievers;
Imam al-Lalakāʾī transmitted this from them,
And before him it was conveyed by al-Ṭabarānī.
