Minor shirk:
Minor shirk detracts from and compromises tawḥīd (pure monotheism). Allah and His Messenger have warned us against a number of practices that fall under minor shirk in order to safeguard our creed and protect tawḥīd, for they weaken monotheism and may even pave the way to major shirk.
Allah the Exalted says, “So do not set up rivals to Allah while you know (the truth).” ⦗1⦘
Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) said about this verse: “The rivals (andād) here refer to a type of shirk subtler than the creeping of an ant across a smooth black stone in the pitch-dark night. It is when someone says, ‘By Allah—and by your life, O so-and-so—and by my life,’ or says, ‘Had it not been for this little dog, the thieves would have come upon us; had it not been for the ducks in the house, they would have come…’”
