Thus, these hadiths establish the proof.¹
The ruling on Jumuʿah when it falls on the Day of ‘Eid:
7 – The outward sense of the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam, narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah in the wording:
“After the Prophet ﷺ performed the ‘Eid prayer, he granted a concession regarding the Friday prayer, saying: ‘Whoever wishes to pray may pray.’”
This indicates that after the ‘Eid prayer, Jumuʿah becomes a dispensation for all people.² If they omit it
(1) The author’s remark is a rebuttal of those scholars—namely the Hadawiyya—who claim that catching even a portion of the sermon is a necessary condition for the validity of Jumuʿa; this hadith refutes their view, as al-Sanani notes in Subul al-Salam. Regarding the report recorded by Ibn Abi Shayba, 1/126/1, in which Yahya ibn Abi Kathir says, “I was informed that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, ‘The sermon was instituted in place of the two rakʿas; whoever misses the sermon must pray four rakʿas,’” the report is weak because the chain between Yahya ibn Abi Kathir and Umar is broken.
(2) The concession applies only to those who had already performed the Eid prayer, not to those who had not; al-Sanani, 2/73, limits it in this way.
فهذه الأحاديث تقوم بها الحجة"١
حكم الجمعة في يوم العيد:
٧ - ظاهر حديث زيد بن أرقم عند أحمد وأبي داود والنسائي وابن ماجه بلفظ:
"أنه ﷺ صلى العيد ثم رخص في الجمعة فقال: "من شاء أن يصلي فليصل". يدل على أن الجمعة تصير بعد صلاة العيد رخصة لكل الناس٢ فإن تركها
١ يريد المصنف بذلك الرد على من قال من العلماء – وهم الهادوية – إن إدراك شيء من الخطبة شرط لا تصح الجمعة بدونه وهذا الحديث حجة عليهم كما قال الصنعاني في سبل السلام.
وأما ما رواه ابن أبي شيبة ١/١٢٦/١ عن يحيى بن أبي كثير قال:
حدثت عن عمر بن الخطاب أنه قال إنما جعلت الخطبة مكان الركعتين فإن لم يدرك الخطبة فليصل أربعا فلا يصح لأنه منقطع بين يحيى بن أبي كثير وعمر.
