Multiple Friday prayers in the same city:
- The Friday prayer is one of the prescribed prayers, and it is permissible for several Friday congregations to be held simultaneously within one city, just as multiple congregations for the other daily prayers are held in that same city. Whoever claims otherwise bases his position on mere personal opinion, and such opinion is not binding on anyone. Should he allege that his view rests on transmitted reports, no such report exists.
In sum, if the prohibition of two Friday prayers in a single city is grounded in the notion that a condition of the Friday prayer is that no equivalent prayer be conducted elsewhere in that locality—or beyond—then where did this notion come from, and what evidence supports it? The mere fact that the Prophet ﷺ did not authorize a Friday prayer other than his own in Madinah and the neighboring villages is, besides being an invalid proof for establishing a condition whose violation would nullify the prayer, not even sufficient to prove an obligation, which is a lesser claim; rather, it necessarily entails
I later found that al-Sanani—may Allah have mercy on him—states in Subul al-Salam, 2/74: “The Friday prayer is valid only when performed in congregation, by unanimous agreement.”
تعدد الجمعة في البلد الواحد:
٤ - صلاة الجمعة صلاة من الصلوات يجوز أن تقام في وقت واحد جمع متعددة في مصر واحد كما تقام جماعات سائر الصلوات في المصر الواحد ومن زعم خلاف هذا كان مستند زعمه مجرد الرأي وليس ذلك بحجة على أحد وإن كان مستند زعمه الرواية فلا رواية
والحاصل أن المنع من جمعتين في مصر واحد إن كان لكون من شرط صلاة الجمعة أن لا يقع مثلها في موضع واحد أو أكثر فمن أين هذا؟ وما الذي دل عليه؟ فإن مجرد أنه ﷺ لم يأذن بإقامة جمعة غير جمعته في المدينة وما كان يتصل بها من القرى فهذا مع كونه لا يصح الاستدلال على الشرطية المقتضية للبطلان بل ولا على الوجوب الذي هو دونها يستلزم
= ثم رأيت الصنعاني ﵀ قد ذكر في سبيل السلام ٢/٧٤:
"إن صلاة الجمعة لا تصح إلا جماعة إجماعا".
