He (al-Qasimi) therefore ends his study by recommending the following: all additional congregations should be discontinued in every small mosque—whether located among houses or along streets—and even in any large mosque for which another can easily take its place; the residents of each sizeable quarter must gather in their principal jami mosque, with every large quarter treated as a separate “village.” In this way, many superfluous mosques become unnecessary, the public symbol of the Friday Prayer will appear in those major jami mosques in its most perfect form, and the community will be free of the problem of multiple services. I add: This is the sound view, understood by anyone who has mastered the Sunnah and considered how the Friday and daily congregational prayers were actually conducted in the Prophet’s time, as I pointed out when discussing this issue on p. 80 of Ahkam al-Jumʿah. Allah is the One who grants success. (1) As for the hadith, “When one meets his brother after leaving the Friday Prayer he should say, ‘May Allah accept from us and from you, for it is an obligatory act you have just fulfilled …’”
