(1) I add that al-Qasimi, may Allah have mercy on him, produced a very important study in which he showed that the Friday Prayer loses its real purpose when it is held in numerous locations. Al-Subki also wrote a treatise on this issue entitled al-Iʿtisam bi-l-Wahid al-Ahad min Iqamati Jumuʿatayn fi Balad (Holding Fast to the One and Only: On the Prohibition of Holding Two Friday Prayers in One Town). In it he states: “To establish more than one Friday Prayer when there is no genuine need is a condemned practice (munkar) that is incontestably known to be forbidden in the religion of Islam.” See his Fatawa, vol. 1, p. 190.
