al-Ajwibah al-Nafiah an Asilat Lajnat Masjid al-JamiahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Answer to the Second Point

  1. Broadcasting the adhān from the aforementioned mosque by radio does not in any way change the ruling of the matter, for the reasons set out a short while ago. We may add the following:

It has already been noted that ʿUthmān—may Allah be pleased with him—added the first adhān only “to let the people know that the Friday prayer had arrived.” Therefore, once the Prophetic adhān is broadcast over the radio, the very purpose that ʿUthmān sought through his extra adhān has been achieved. I am convinced that, had such a radio existed in ʿUthmān’s time and had he deemed its use permissible, as we do, he would have been content with broadcasting the Prophetic adhān and would have found no need for the additional call.
