(3) Reported by al-Bukhari, 9/198; Muslim, 4/152; Ahmad, no. 6337; and al-Bayhaqi, 7/262, from the hadith of Ibn Umar. It was also transmitted by Abu Yaala—the second additional wording comes from his version—and its chain is sound, as Ibn Hajar states in Al-Talkhis. The same addition appears separately in Ahmad, no. 5263, through another route, and Abu Awana recorded it in his Sahih as cited in Fath, 9/201. A corroborating narration from Abu Hurayra was mentioned shortly before. The report indicates that responding is obligatory, for the term “disobedience” (usyan) is applied only to the omission of a duty, as Ibn Hajar notes.
