as well as Abu’l-Hasan al-Tusi in al-Mukhtasar 1/110/1; both of them preserve the complete wording, and their chain is sound according to Muslim’s criteria. They include a few additional phrases, while the remainder agrees with the other transmissions found in al-Bukhari, Ahmad, al-Nasa’i, and Ibn Saʿd. The hadith is also recorded by Muslim 4/144–145; Abu Dawud 3/104, 143; al-Tirmidhi 2/172–173, who declared it authentic; al-Darimi 3/104, 143; Ibn Majah 1/589–590; likewise by Malik 2/76–77; al-Tahawi, Mushkil al-Athar 4/145; Ibn al-Jarud, al-Muntaqa no. 715; and al-Tayalisi 1/306 in abridged form, omitting the episode of Saʿd and Abd al-Rahman. I have traced the hadith through several routes from Anas and supplied a corroborating report from Abd al-Rahman himself in my book Irwa al-Ghalil, no. 198.
