- The Sunnah concerning the wedding banquet (walīmah)
Certain matters should be taken into account:
- It should last for three days after the consummation, for this is what has been transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ. Anas—may Allah be pleased with him—reported:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ consummated marriage with a woman and sent me to invite….”
—and also by al-Tahawi in Mushkil al-Athar 4:144–145, and by Ibn Asakir 12:88/2 and 15:124/2. A fuller wording will be quoted below, pp. 173–174. As Ibn Hajar observes in Fath al-Bari 9:188, its isnad is “unobjectionable.” All the transmitters are reliable narrators used by Muslim except Abd al-Karim ibn Sulayt; several trustworthy scholars reported from him, Ibn Hibban listed him in al-Thiqat 2:183, and Ibn Hajar in Taqrib al-Tahdhib graded him “maqbul” (acceptable).
٢٥- السنة في الوليمة:
وينبغي أن يلاحظ فيها أمورا:
الأول: أن تكون ثلاثة أيام عقب الدخول لأنه هو المنقول عن النبي ﷺ فعن أنس ﵁ قال:
"بنى رسول الله ﷺ بامرأة فأرسلني فدعوت
= والطحاوي في "المشكل" ٤/١٤٤ - ١٤٥ وابن عساكر ١٢/٨٨/ ٢ و ١٥/١٢٤/٢ وسيأتي بأتم منه ص ١٧٣ - ١٧٤ وإسناده كما قال الحافظ في "الفتح" ٩/١٨٨:
"لا بأس به".
ورجاله ثقات رجال مسلم غير عبد الكريم بن سليط وقد روى عنه جماعة من الثقات وأورده ابن حبان في "الثقات" ٢/١٨٣ وقال الحافظ في "التقريب:
"مقبول".
