- The husband and wife praying together:
It is recommended that the two of them perform two rak‘ahs together, for this practice is reported from the early generations. Two narrations support it:
The first: From Abū Saʿīd, the freedman of Abū Usayd, who said:
“I was married while still a slave. I invited a number of the Prophet’s Companions ﷺ, among them Ibn Masʿūd, Abū Dharr, and Ḥudhayfah. When the iqāmah was given, Abū Dharr stepped forward to lead, but they said, ‘Stay back!’ He asked, ‘Is that really what you want?’ They replied, ‘Yes.’¹ So I led them in prayer while I was still an enslaved man. Afterward they instructed me, saying:
‘When your wife enters upon you, pray two rak‘ahs, then ask Allah for the best of what has come to you and seek His protection from its evil. After that, you and your wife may continue as you wish.’²
