(1) Ahmad recorded it. It is backed by a corroborating report from Abu Hurayra preserved by Ibn Abi Shayba, Abu Dawud 1/339, al-Bayhaqi, and Ibn al-Sunni (no. 609); a second corroboration from Abu Saʿid transmitted by al-Bazzar (no. 1450 in Kashf al-Astar); and a third from Salman in Hilyat al-awliyaʾ 1/186. With these supporting chains, the hadith is sahih—or at the very least hasan.
