Second: It is narrated from Asmāʾ bint Yazīd that she was in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while men and women were sitting together. He said,
“Perhaps a man goes and tells what he has done with his wife, and perhaps a woman discloses what she has done with her husband?”
The people fell silent.¹ I said, “Yes, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, the women certainly do that and the men certainly do that as well.”
He replied, “Do not do that, for it is only like a devil who meets a she-devil…”
munkar (anomalous). Al-Dhahabi then cited this very hadith and said: “This is one of the reports rejected on account of ‘Umar.”
I conclude from the verdicts of these imams that the hadith is weak, not sahih. Ibn al-Qattan took a middle road, saying as quoted in al-Fayd: “ ‘Umar was declared weak by Ibn Ma‘in, and Ahmad said his reports are munkar; therefore, with him in the chain the hadith is hasan, not sahih.”
I cannot see how he could rate it hasan in the face of the very weakening he himself relates; perhaps he was overawed by the label “Sahih.” Up to now I have not found any strong supporting evidence for this hadith, unlike the one that follows—Allah knows best.

الثاني: عن أسماء بنت يزيد أنها كانت عند رسول الله ﷺ والرجال والنساء قعود فقال:
"لعل رجلا يقول ما يفعل بأهله ولعل امرأة تخبر بما فعلت مع زوجها؟ " فأرم١ القوم فقلت: إي والله يا رسول الله إنهن ليفعلن وإنهم ليفعلون. قال:
"فلا تفعلوا فإنما ذلك مثل الشيطان لقي شيطانة
= مناكير".
ثم ساق له الذهبي هذا الحديث وقال:
"فهذا مما استنكر لعمر".
قلت: ويسنتنج من هذه الأقوال لهؤلاء الأئمة أن الحديث ضعيف وليس بصحيح وتوسط ابن القطان فقال كما في "الفيض":
"وعمر ضعفه ابن معين وقال أحمد: أحاديثه مناكير فالحديث به حسن لا صحيح".
قلت: ولا أدري كيف حكم بحسنه مع التضعيف الذي حكاه هو نفسه فلعله أخذ بهيبة "الصحيح"! ولم أجد حتى الآن ما أشد به عضد هذا الحديث بخلاف الحديث الآتي بعده والله أعلم.
