Adab al-Zifaf fi al-Sunnah al-MutahharahNasir al-Din al-Albani
  1. When intercourse becomes permissible after she has become pure:

Once her menstrual bleeding has stopped and the blood has completely ceased, it is lawful for her husband to have intercourse with her after she has either washed the affected area only, performed ablution, or taken a full ritual bath (ghusl). Whichever of these she does, it is permissible for him to approach her.2 This is because the Exalted One says:

(1) Abu Dawud recorded it as hadith no. 262 in his Sunan; the wording cited here is his. The chain meets Muslim’s criteria. Ibn ʿAbd al-Hadi ruled it sahih, while Ibn Hajar and al-Bayhaqi (1/314) graded it sound; the additional wording is from al-Bayhaqi. (2) This is also the position of Ibn Hazm (10/81). ʿAta and Qatadah narrated that when a menstruating woman perceives that her period has ended, she should wash her private parts and her husband may have intercourse with her. The same view is attributed to al-Awzaʿi, as reported in Bidayat al-Mujtahid (1/44). Ibn Hazm says: “We have transmitted from ʿAta that once she sees the sign of purity and performs wudu (ablution), intercourse becomes permissible for her husband; this is likewise the opinion of Abu Sulayman and all our companions.”
