and believes what he says has indeed disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.” 1
The second: It is narrated from Anas ibn Malik who said:
“The Jews, whenever a woman among them menstruated, would put her out of the house; they would not eat with her, nor drink with her, nor stay with her 2 in the house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about this, so Allah—exalted is His remembrance—revealed: ‘They ask you about menstruation. Say: it is a discomfort, so keep away from women during menstruation…’ to the end of the verse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, ‘Stay with them in the houses and do everything with them except intercourse.’
The Jews said, ‘This man wishes to leave nothing of our practices without contradicting us in it.’ Usayd ibn Hudayr and ʿAbbad ibn Bishr therefore came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! The Jews are saying such-and-such; shall we not then have intercourse with them during menstruation?’ The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed 3 until we thought he was angry 4.
