—so that I might drink from the very spot where the Prophet ﷺ had sipped. He then said to the women who were with me, “Pass it to them.” They replied, “We have no appetite for it.” Whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, “Do not combine hunger with falsehood.” 1.
(1) Recorded by Ahmad, 6:438, 452, 453, and 458, in both extended and abridged versions, through two chains that reinforce one another. Al-Munadhdheri (4:29) and, likewise, al-Humaydi in his Musnad (61/2) note this mutual corroboration. A supporting report appears in al-Tabarani’s al-Saghir and al-Kabir, in Abu Shaykh’s Tarikh Isfahan (pp. 282–283), and in Ibn al-Dunya’s Kitab al-Samt (26/2).
