= Abd al-Razzaq also transmitted the report, 6/194, nos. 10469–10470. As for the hadith, “When one of you has intercourse with his wife or his slave-girl, let him not look at her farj (private parts), for that causes blindness,” it is fabricated. This verdict was given by Imam Abu Hatim al-Razi and Ibn Hibban and was followed by Ibn al-Jawzi, ‘Abd al-Haqq in his Ahkam 1/143, and Ibn Daqiq al-‘Id as cited in al-Khulasa 2/118. I have set out its defect in Al-Ahadith al-Da‘ifa wa al-Mawdu‘a wa Atharuha al-Sayyi fi al-Umma, no. 195. (1) Ibn ‘Urwa al-Hanbali states in Al-Kawakib 1/29/575: “It is permissible for each spouse to look at and touch every part of the other’s body, even the farj (private parts). This is allowed by the hadith, and because the farj is lawful for sexual enjoyment, looking at and touching it is permissible like any other part of the body.” This is also the position of Malik and others, for Ibn Sa‘d relates from al-Waqidi: “I saw Malik b. Anas and Ibn Abi Dhi’b regard it as unobjectionable that each spouse look at the other.”
