- Ablution between two acts of intercourse:
If a husband meets his wife in the lawful manner and then wishes to approach her again, he should perform ablution, for the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “When one of you has relations with his family and then wants to return, let him perform ablution [an ablution in between]; in another wording: the ablution he performs for prayer [for it is more invigorating for the return].”¹
Such authorities include al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Hazm, al-Dhiya, al-Mundhiri, Ibn al-Mulaqqin, Ibn Daqiq al-Id, Ibn Hajar, and others cited elsewhere; see, for example, Irwa al-Ghalil 7/65–70.
(1) Reported by Muslim 1/171; Ibn Abi Shaybah, al-Musannaf 1/51/2; Ahmad 3/28; Abu Nuaym, al-Tibb 2/12/1—he alone records the additional wording—and others, through the narration of Abu Said al-Khudri. We have also graded it in Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 216.
