plucking the armpit hair—none of these may be neglected for more than forty nights.”⦗1⦘
5 – Shaving the beard
Fifth: Of comparable ugliness—if not even greater in the eyes of people of sound natural disposition—is the scourge that has afflicted most men: adorning themselves by shaving the beard in blind imitation of the unbelieving Europeans, until it has reached the point that they deem it a disgrace for a groom⦗2⦘ to enter upon his bride while he is still unshaven!⦗3⦘ In this practice there are several violations:
(1) Reported by Muslim, 1/153; Abu Awana, 1/190; Abu Dawud, 2/195; al-Nasa’i, 1/7; al-Tirmidhi, 4/7; Ahmad, 3/122, 203, 355; Ibn al-A‘rabi, al-Mu‘jam, 41/1; Ibn ‘Adi, 201/2; and Ibn ‘Asakir, 8/142/1. The alternate wording is found in all these sources except the first two.
(2) In Arabic the term ʿarus (“bride / groom”) may be applied to a man just as it is to a woman, as noted earlier.
(3) Some people have strayed even further, letting the beard grow only on the occasion of a relative’s death and imagining this to be religious perfection—“for it is not the eyes that are blind but the hearts within the chests” (Q 22:46).
قص الشارب وتقليم الأظفار ونتف الإبط وحلق العانة أن لا تترك أكثر من أربعين ليلة"١.
٥- حلق اللحى:
الخامس: ومثلها في القبح - إن لم تكن أقبح منها عند ذوي الفطر السليمة - ما ابتلي به أكثر الرجال من التزين بحلق اللحية بحكم تقليدهم للأوربيين الكفار حتى صار من العار عندهم أن يدخل العروس٢ على عروسه وهو غير حليق! ٣ وفي ذلك عدة مخالفات:
١ رواه مسلم ١/١٥٣ وأبو عوانة ١/١٩٠ وأبو داود ٢/١٩٥ والنسائي ١/٧ والترمذي ٤/٧ وأحمد ٣/١٢٢ و ٢٠٣ و ٣٥٥ وابن الأعرابي في المعجم ٤١/١ وابن عدي ٢٠١/٢ وابن عساكر ٨/١٤٢/١ والرواية الأخرى لهم جميعا إلا الأولين.
٢ يقال للرجل: عروس كما يقال للمرأة كما سبق.
٣ وزاد بعضهم في الضلال فجعلوا إعفاء اللحية بمناسبة وفاة قريب لهم من الكمال! ﴿فَإِنَّهَا لا تَعْمَى الْأَبْصَارُ وَلَكِنْ تَعْمَى الْقُلُوبُ الَّتِي فِي الصُّدُورِ﴾ .
