—the bride herself—if she is properly covered⦗1⦘ and no temptation is feared, on account of the hadith narrated by Sahl ibn Saʿd, who said:
(1) By “the prescribed covering” I mean the hijab that meets eight conditions: 1) it must envelop the entire body except the face and hands; 2) it must not itself be a form of adornment; 3) it must be opaque, not transparent; 4) it must be loose enough not to outline any part of the body; 5) it must be free of perfume; 6) it must not resemble men’s clothing; 7) it must not resemble the dress of non-Muslim women; 8) it must not be a garment worn for show. I have detailed the Quranic and prophetic proofs for these conditions in a separate treatise entitled “Hijab al-marah al-muslimah fi’l-kitab wa’l-sunnah” (The Muslim Woman’s Veil in the Quran and the Sunnah), first published by the Salafi Press in Cairo in 1374/1954, reprinted several times by al-Maktab al-Islami, and recently licensed to the Islamic Library in Amman.
