Adab al-Zifaf fi al-Sunnah al-MutahharahNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

Note: Al-Dhahabi, in al-ʿUluw, p. 63 (Ansar ed.), mistakenly attributes this hadith to the two Sahihs and tacks on the extra phrase, “wa dhakrakum Allahu fīman ʿindah” (and may Allah remember you among those who are with Him). The report is found in neither Sahih, and none of the chains I have inspected contains that addition. Be aware that this formula of remembrance is not confined to a fasting person after he has broken his fast; it is a supplication for the host that Allah grant him success so that fasting people may break the fast with him and he thereby earns the reward of feeding them. It therefore parallels the other two expressions—“akala taʿāmakum al-abrār” (may the righteous eat your food) and “sallat ʿalaykum al-malāʾikah” (and may the angels invoke blessings upon you)—and for us can only function as a duʿāʾ, which is self-evident. The hadith nowhere states that the Prophet ﷺ was fasting, so restricting it to that circumstance is unwarranted. The wording reported from Ibn al-Zubayr, “The Messenger of Allah broke his fast…,” is not valid evidence because its isnād is weak, as noted above, even though a similar version is related from Anas; it is recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah, 2:181/2; Aḥmad; al-Nasāʾī in Kitāb al-Walīmah, 66/2; Ibn al-Aʿrābī in al-Muʿjam, 39/3; and Abū Nuʿaym, 3:72, all through Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr from Anas. Al-Nasāʾī remarks, “Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr did not hear it from Anas.” He and Ibn al-Mubārak, in al-Zuhd, 221/2, then transmit it by other routes in which the wording is, “I was informed from Anas,” making the report munqaṭiʿ (disconnected).
