—peace and blessings be upon him— was never confined to any set pattern in this matter. Anyone who opts for a particular surah does so in line with what has been transmitted, and the narrations on the subject are exceedingly diverse; collectively they indicate freedom of choice without any prescribed limit. We have explained this in detail in al-Tamhīd. Allah is the granter of success.
