half of what is harvested or picked that day; nor is it permissible to shake olive trees in return for one-half of whatever falls from them. There is no harm, however, in shaking the trees and collecting the entire crop for one-half, one-third, or any agreed portion of it.

If someone hires a laborer who then falls ill—or, if he is a slave, absconds—and the man returns during the remainder of the year, the hiring contract remains in force for the time that is left, while the employer is released from liability for the days lost to sickness or idleness.
