nor should he strike her. If she refuses to share his bed and words fail to dissuade her, he may hit her lightly, without inflicting injury, and he must never strike her face. Allah, exalted be He, says: “Women have rights equivalent to the duties incumbent upon them, in accordance with what is fair; yet men have a degree over them.” (Quran 2:228)
