Al-KāfīIbn Abd al-Barr

It is better to sacrifice a camel while it is kneeling on its breast than to hamstring it, and cattle and sheep should be laid on their sides. No one may slaughter before dawn on the Day of Sacrifice; when dawn breaks, slaughter becomes permissible in Mina, and the pilgrims need not wait for their imam to offer his sacrifice first. For every pilgrim performing Hajj, the place of slaughter is Mina, and for every person performing ʿumrah, it is Mecca. Yet if a pilgrim were to slaughter in Mecca and an ʿumrah-goer in Mina, neither would be at fault, God willing.
