wine or anything else, his retreat is invalidated. Whoever deliberately breaks his fast while in retreat likewise nullifies the retreat according to Mālik; this is also the view of those who maintain that no retreat is valid without fasting. Those who deem the retreat permissible without fasting, however, do not consider it spoiled by such an act. Allah alone grants success.
